An increasingly widespread method of extracting natural gas from the earth is being blamed for leaving whole communities in the U.S. without clean drinking water. The process, called 'fracking', involves millions of gallons of water mixed with chemicals and sand being pumped deep underground. The consequence is the release of trapped natural gas. While financially it may be a major breakthrough for the massive energy companies involved, the people living near the plants are afraid of what now comes out of their tap.
